Cereal: A Weapon against Serial Hunger

The old adage “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” gets drilled into most of us in our youth. Unfortunately, for those living under poverty, obtaining nutritious food to start the day with a healthy breakfast is beyond their means. Currently, HSP is in need of breakfast items particularly cereal, oatmeal, and pancake mix, to provide breakfast food for the 123 impoverished seniors we serve through our Senior Citizen Project. For these seniors, 90% of which suffer from chronic ailments that require special diets, starting the day off with a healthy meal would be impossible without the nutritious groceries they receive from HSP.

Through the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides 123 local seniors in need the nutritious groceries they require to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. This includes providing fresh produce, frozen meat, bread, and non-perishables for all meals of the day. In addition to cereal, oatmeal, and pancake mix, some items that are in high demand for the seniors we serve are canned tuna, peanut butter, and jelly. If you have any questions about making food donations, or other ways to make a difference in the lives of needy seniors, please call HSP at 630-221-8340.
