The Humanitarian
Service Project would like to recognize the Lombard Service League for their
service to the community. The club donated $500 for the seniors, children and
families enrolled in our programs. This group is very active when it comes to serving
people in need; including supporting HSP for the past several years. We would
like to offer our sincere gratitude for their donation!

Thank You To Our Monday Morning Food Sorters
The Humanitarian Service Project would like to
recognize some of our wonderful volunteers. Our Monday Morning Food Sorters
come in nearly every Monday to sort non-perishables for the low-income senior
citizens we serve. Our Senior Citizen Project delivers 100 pounds of groceries to
each of the 133 seniors we serve every month. This would not be possible
without the dedication of our Monday Food Sorters, and we are truly grateful
for all they do.

Volunteers Needed for Fun Summer Fundraiser
It’s
finally summer, which means it’s almost time for Ribfest! Every Fourth of July
weekend, the Naperville Exchange club hosts this fun event for the public. In
addition to providing delicious food and great music, Ribfest also raises
thousands of dollars for charity every year. The Humanitarian Service Project
is one of the organizations that benefits from this event. Ribfest is staffed
by volunteers, and the more volunteers representing HSP, the more funds we will
receive to serve families in need through our Feed the Kids program. For more
information, and to sign up to be a volunteer, visit http://www.ribfest.net/volunteer/ .
If you have any questions about this event, please contact us at hsp@humanitarianservice.org
or call (630) 221-8340. We can’t wait to see you there!

Farewell to a Great Intern!
With summer almost here it is time to say farewell to
HSP’s last remaining spring intern, Zach Miller. In his time at HSP, Zach
worked directly with Floyd, HSP’s CFO/Co-founder, learning the ins and outs of
accounting at a nonprofit. Zach will be finishing up his internship this week.
We at HSP wish to thank Zach for all his help and wish him well as he continues
in his education.

Thank You for Helping to Stamp out Hunger
HSP would like to thank all
of the volunteers who gave their time on Saturday afternoon to help us with the
annual Stamp out Hunger food drive. There were dozens of volunteers who helped
transport and sort the food we received through this annual event sponsored by
the National Association of Letter Carriers. We wish to thank them, and
everyone else who made the drive possible. All the food HSP received from the
event will be distributed to local senior citizens and families in need.

Thank You to Two Fantastic Groups!
Today, HSP had two great volunteer groups spend their
Friday with us.
First
we had a group of 10 from Aurora Christian School who spent several hours making
packages of frozen meat for the low-income families who will be served by our
summertime Feed the Kids program. This spectacular group volunteered as a part
of the school’s annual “City Serve” event, in which the students spend the
whole day giving back to the community. We’ve hosted students from Aurora
Christian for the past few years for this event, and we are glad to have the
opportunity to host them again.
The
second group who graciously gave their time was a group of 5 from UPS Supply
Chain Solutions. This group regularly volunteers on the day before our Senior
Citizen Project “delivery days” to sort the fresh produce and bread that will
be delivered to the 133 seniors we serve.
We
wish to thank both of these groups for their support!

Help "Stamp out Hunger"
HSP would like to remind all
of our supporters that this Saturday, May 14th you can participate in
the annual Stamp out Hunger food drive by leaving non-perishable food items by
your mailbox. This annual event, run by the National Association of Letter
Carriers, provides food for hundreds of organizations devoted to feeding the
hungry throughout our nation, including HSP. All you need to do is set out a
bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox for your mail carrier to pick up
this Saturday, May 14th. We encourage all of our friends to
participate, and help feed our neighbors in need!

Thank You to UPS
HSP would like to recognize a group of 9 volunteers
from UPS Customer Service Solutions for giving 2 hours of their time yesterday
afternoon to sort non-perishable food for the 133 low-income seniors enrolled
in the Senior Citizen Project. The group was very enthusiastic, and was a joy
to have at our facility. With HSP delivering more than 6 tons of groceries to
seniors through the Senior Citizen Project every month, we rely on the help of
volunteers, like this great group from UPS. We thank them for their support!

Thank You to Girl Scout Troop 910
HSP would like to send a huge “thank you” to the girls
of local Girl Scout troop 910 who created and donated 30 “party in a bag kits”
for the underprivileged children served by our Children’s Birthday Project. The
girls dropped off these wonderful kits on Friday, and toured HSP’s Center to
learn how the Children’s Birthday Project, and HSP’s other programs, touch the
lives of those in need throughout our communities. We wish to thank these girls
for such an amazing donation!

Happy Birthday Nancy!
Today HSP had the opportunity to celebrate the
birthday of our volunteer outreach coordinator Nancy Dorsman. Nancy volunteers
a great deal of her time every week to help spread the word about HSP in the
community, so HSP staff took time today to celebrate her special day. Please
join us in wishing Nancy a happy birthday!

Thank You to Ty Inc
HSP has some cute new faces around the office,
this donation of Frizzys from Ty Inc. The company donated 800 of the Frizzys
for the low-income children enrolled in our Children’s Birthday Project and
other programs. We know these Frizzys will bring smiles to their faces. We wish
to thank Ty Inc. for this incredible donation.

Serve with Liberty!
HSP would like to thank our friends from Liberty
Mutual for volunteering at HSP as part of the Serve with Liberty event. Serve
with Liberty is an annual program in which thousands of team members from
Liberty Mutual volunteer for a number of worthy causes, including at HSP! We
have been hosting volunteers for Serve with Liberty for five years, and they
are always wonderful, enthusiastic groups. Today and on Tuesday, 2 separate
groups of 9 volunteers from Liberty Mutual have given their time to box
non-perishable food for the families in our Feed the Kids program, along with
many other tasks! We wish to thank them for all their support!

Thanks to these Amazing Girl Scouts
Yesterday, HSP received a wonderful donation from Girl
Scout Troop 4518. These girls conducted a book drive, collecting approximately
200 new books for the deserving children in our Children’s Birthday Project.
HSP provides each of the 700+ underprivileged children enrolled in our program
with 4-7 new books, so that they can have books of their very own. We want to
thank the girls of Troop 4518 for helping to make this happen!

Secret Pals Needed for Low-Income Seniors
HSP currently has 9 seniors without “Secret Pals.” The
Secret Pal program is part of HSP’s Senior Citizen Project, in which a
volunteer “Secret Pal” donor buys a $5-$25 gift for a low-income senior each
month. Secret pals provide these deserving seniors with items to make their
lives easier and the knowledge they are loved and cared for. To sign up, please
contact HSP: 630-221-8340 or hsp@humanitarianservice.org. To learn more about the program, check out HSP’s

Thank You to All of our Human Race Supporters!
We at the Humanitarian Service
Project wish to thank everyone who represented us at the DuPage Human Race on
Saturday, as well as everyone who donated to support our runners and walkers.
It was a wonderful event, and it was great to see so many people (and pets)
raising funds and spreading awareness for a number of worthy causes in DuPage.
There are still a few days to
donate in support of our runner/walker team. 100% of the donations support the
seniors, children, and families in HSP’s programs. You can donate at: https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/IL/DownersGrove/DuPageHumanRace
.
