Goodbye Luke

HSP says goodbye to Luke Jolly, a member of the summer intern team, today. Over the past few months, Luke has worked hard as the PR Intern to keep the public informed about all of HSP’s programs and opportunities. Also, he has been working to put together an event which will be announced soon. We would like to thank Luke for his dedication this summer and wish him the best of luck at college!

New ways to give!

Do you want to get involved in service for your community, but don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, with HSP’s new fundraising platform, you can now do whatever you want to serve your community. This new platform allows you to design your own personal fundraising campaign and get your family and friends involved in making a difference in the lives of low income families in Kane and DuPage counties. Run, bike, walk or swim to forge a better birthday for low-income children with our Children’s Birthday Project. Host a game night for your neighbors to sponsor a senior enrolled in the Senior Citizen Project. Challenge your office to a race and see who can raise the most to feed a family in the summer months through our Feed the Kids program. The possibilities are limitless, just like the opportunities that HSP provides to impact your community. Follow the link to start your own campaign and use your boundless creativity, skill and talent to make a better tomorrow for our community.

School Supply Drive Update

This week, the first of our distributions of school supplies is going out to reach low-income students in the area. Our school supply drive equips over 3,000 local kids with the supplies they need to succeed in school. HSP will continue to distribute through the end of September through education fairs and to local schools in need. Year-round, children receive school supplies in their birthday boxes as well. Thank you to everyone who has already donated—your generosity makes a difference!

Volunteer Spotlight

Summer is a busy time for HSP, and we are very happy to host many wonderful volunteer groups who help us through our busy seasons. Yesterday, a group of ten volunteers from St. Pius X Catholic Community’s youth group put together packages of bread for the 100 families in our Feed the Kids program. Today, another group of 11 summer interns from Frito-Lay/PepsiCo volunteered their morning to put together packages of meat for the 133 seniors we serve through the Senior Citizen Project. HSP would like to say a huge thank-you to these wonderful groups for volunteering their time and energy to help us prepare for the upcoming distribution days. We couldn’t do all that we do without the help of generous volunteers.

Thank you to McDonald's Working Mothers Council

HSP would like to say a huge thank-you to the McDonald’s Working Mothers Council. Last week, they created and donated 50 “Party-in-a-Bag” kits for our Children’s Birthday Project. Nancy, our Volunteer Outreach Coordinator and Community Outreach Intern, Natalie, were able to represent HSP at the Working Mothers Council meeting last week. This amazing donation will bring smiles and fun to kids on their special day!

Veggie Fest

If you’re looking for a fun, family-friendly activity this weekend, consider stopping by Veggie Fest on the grounds of the Science of Spirituality center in Naperville! Veggie Fest is a vegetarian food and lifestyle festival. It will feature over 100 vendor booths, live music, speakers from around the world, and delicious food demos. HSP will be one of the vendors, and we would love for you to stop by, get to know us, and learn about our projects. Admission and parking are both free, so come hungry and ready for a great time!

Mobile Food Pantry Part II

As the week heats up the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) was glad to again host a “mobile food pantry” with the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. As the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry is finishing the renovation to its facilities HSP lent out support helping them host a Mobile Food Pantry at our facility. We served 90 individuals and families that came today. We would like to thank the awesome team of volunteers, a team made up of both HSP volunteers and Glen Ellyn Food Pantry volunteers. Again we would like to extend a huge thank you to the awesome Glen Ellyn Food Pantry Staff and the driver from NIFB, we love working with you guys and we look forward to working with you again.
