Seeking Food Donations!

With summer coming to a close and the holiday seasons approaching, Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) is in need of several non-perishable food items for its Senior Citizen Project (SCP).

Every month, HSP helps prepare and deliver food to needy seniors enrolled in the SCP. The goal of this project is to provide nutritional food for the needy elderly in DuPage and Kane Counties throughout the year, thereby alleviate the suffering and humiliation that poverty brings. Boxes filled with food products from all major food groups—grains, fruits, vegetables and meat—as well as other items such as paper products, cleaning products, personal hygiene products and gifts are delivered right to the senior’s door every month by volunteer drivers.

All of this is made possible by contributions from wonderful companies, organizations, and individuals that support HSP. Every little bit counts and takes us one step closer towards meeting the needs of our seniors; a food drive is an excellent way for a group to collect donations, but individual donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated. The following items are especially needed:

  • Canned Meats
  • Salmon
  • Tomato Products
  • Drinks
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal
  • Soup
  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Pasta Meals
  • Main Meals
  • Beans
  • Candy
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Syrup
  • Pancakes
  • Peanut Butter
  • Jelly
  • Oil
  • Pickles
  • Olives
  • Pasta Sauce

Donations can be dropped off anytime from 9am-5:30pm at the Humanitarian Service Project Office:

United Stationers Helps Local Elementary School Students

Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) would like to thank our good friends at United Stationers for their generous contribution to needy children attending Brady Elementary in Aurora. Jeff and Carlos from United Stations presented 150 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to students yesterday during a small assembly held in the school cafeteria. Each backpack and its contents are valued at $60, for a total value of $9000. The children were incredibly grateful and happy, as evidenced by the smiling faces. A special thanks goes to HSP staffer Sharon Sass, who directed United Stationers to this school and helped coordinate the event.

United Stationers has been a tremendous supporter of HSP and its programs for the past several years. Some of their many contributions include pallets of paper and cleaning products, as well as school supplies donations, money, and volunteers. HSP is grateful for the continued support from companies such as United Stationers, as well as other organizations and individuals.

Fujifilm Donates School Supplies

Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) would like to thank Fujifilm of Hanover Park for their generous donation of school supplies. Today marks the third year in a row that Fujifilm has helped HSP provide local needy children with the supplies they need to succeed in school. In addition to that, they have also contributed greatly in recent years by holding food and toy drives around Christmas.

HSP depends on the continued support of area companies such as Fujifilm, as well as other organizations and individuals. The three large, heavy boxes dropped off today containing folders, notebooks, pencils, coloring supplies, and other items will surely go a long way. With school already begun, HSP is working hard to collect and distribute school supplies as soon as possible.

The HSP school supply drive is ongoing, and donations are accepted throughout the year.

If you would like to donate supplies, they can be dropped off anytime from 9am-5:30pm at the Humanitarian Service Project Office:

100+ Women Who Care Donates $10,500

The week certainly got off to a great start this morning when Sally and Deb from 100+ Women Who Care DuPage County stopped by to present the HSP with a $10,500 donation. Not only was it an extremely generous amount, but the way the funds were raised was very unique as well!

The group meets only four times a year. Each of the 100+ members agrees to donate $100 each per meeting to the charity the group chooses. Nominating slips with the charities’ names are placed in a box. Three slips are drawn and the members who nominated those charities get to give a five minute presentation about that charity. The members then vote to see which non-profit group will receive all the $100 checks from that meeting. What a cool concept in philanthropic giving!

The HSP was so excited to hear that we were selected to receive the funds from this quarter's meeting! It was amazing to see Sally and Deb walk through the door with 105 $100 checks in a beautifully wrapped envelope. We definitely had a celebration at the Center!

Thank you 100+ Women Who Care for making such a huge difference in your community and in the lives of the needy children, seniors and families the HSP serves!

In and Out

It is always wonderful to see at Humanitarian Service Project just how well needs are met thanks to our volunteers and donors. Just today we received a wonderful donation from Amy Regan of Wheaton and her family. Amy and her family are currently in the process of moving from Glen Ellyn to Wheaton, and in that process decided to graciously donate two televisions they no longer felt they needed. We at HSP found a use for one of the TVs so quickly that it was out the door almost as soon as it had come in. One of the seniors supported through our Senior Citizen Program had just beforehand called asking if we had any TVs. The senior had just had a TV break on him, and, thanks to the donation by Amy and her family, the need was filled right away.

We at HSP are always so thrilled to be able to fill a need, and it is thanks to all of our supporters that we are able to do so. Again, we would like to thank Amy Regan and her family, and all of our other donors and volunteers for all the support that they give. If you have anything you would like to donate please call us at 630-221-8340 to see if there is a need you could help us fill.

The School Supply Drive Marches On

While many children have already returned to school, the HSP School Supply Drive continues to move full steam in order to provide supplies to children from families in need. We at HSP would like to extend our deepest thanks to the Rotary Club of Wheaton for donating 840 backpacks full of supplies to support the school supply drive. The Rotary Club graciously donated the supplies which they purchased with money they raised to help prepare area school children for the year ahead.

Everyone at Humanitarian Service Project has been floored by the support our School Supply Drive has received from individual donors and organizations, like the Rotary Club of Wheaton, who have made the program possible. Thanks to them HSP has provided supplies to more than 1000 children, and for that we would like to again thank The Rotary Club of Wheaton, and everyone else who has donated supplies. HSP’s Supply Drive is still ongoing, and if you would like to make a donation they can be dropped off any time from 9am-5:30pm Monday-Friday at the Humanitarian Service Project Office: 465 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL, 60188 Phone: 630-221-8340.
